Con lui e il suo destriero ora ci sono Gundelinda ed Eberardo, così chiamati dai gentili proprietari dell’appartamento di Viterbo dove ho nuovamente dipinto a distanza di un anno dal primo. Vagamente ispirate ai due ospiti, le due figure – come il primo Guidregildo, di epoca tardomedievale e in versione Brancaleone – quasi di fronte l’una all’altra, si sbirciano, facendo incontrare i loro sguardi. Lui, in groppa ad un cinghiale, forse lo stalliere del primo, guarda, desideroso, dalla sua umile postazione, la donzella sul lato opposto, donna amante di natura e scrittura: ai suoi piedi un gatto altezzoso, pronto a difendere la sua Lei da possibili insidie, mentre un topolino, sulla trave, fugge silenziosamente.

With him and his steed are now Gundelinda and Eberardo, so named by the kind owners of the apartment in Viterbo where I painted again a year after the first. Loosely inspired by the two guests, the two figures—like the first Guidregildo, from the late Middle Ages and in Brancaleone’s version—almost facing each other, peer at each other, their gazes meeting. He, astride a wild boar, perhaps the first’s stablehand, gazes longingly from his humble perch at the damsel on the opposite side, a woman who loves nature and writing. At her feet, a haughty cat, ready to defend his lady from potential dangers, while a mouse, on the beam, silently flees.
